Darker Than Black

kay. From the minds behind Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop: The Movie, and Ghost in the Shell comes Darker than Black, a science fiction thriller that centers on Li, an unknown contractor set on… set on… ah heck, it’s too early to say. I mean, I still am on the 6th episode. Heh, sorry but I think he’s a freelancer paid by different agencies to find out about the Hell’s Gate. But the gist is after the Hell’s Gate was constructed 10 years ago, people with psychic abilities, called Contractors, started to show up. They compulsively have to complete tasks like smoking (November 11 does that even though he hates it) to keep them… I guess. The Contractors can also make programmable shells called ‘Dolls’, used to either lure other Contractors or complete menial tasks.

The opening scene was the bomb! it reminded me of those korean gangster movies with the jumping-over-the-building-and-having-the-cops-on-your-ass kind of thing. I didn’t really like the opening except for the really cool english part and the ending didn’t really fit with the over all feel of the anime. If you want to listen for yourselves then here it is: openings: “Howling” by abingdon boys school “Kakusei Heroism ~The Hero Without A Name~” by An Cafe |endings: “Tsukiakari” by Rie fu “Dreams” by HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR. I can tell from the progression that this is going to have lots of twists and turns but alas, it only lasts for 25 episodes. ENjoy! I know the whole thing doesn’t make sense but forgive me.
